NCFU hosted a round table of the XIII Stavropol Forum of the World Russian People's Council

The XIII Stavropol Forum of the World Russian People’s Council “Protection of Traditional Values as a National Security Strategy” is held in Stavropol. It is organized by the International Public Organization “World Russian People’s Council” (Moscow), the Stavropol Metropolis, the North Caucasus Federal University and the History of the Fatherland Foundation. The event is held with the support of the Stavropol government.

During three days at various venues of the regional center, more than five thousand participants will discuss issues of spiritual, moral and patriotic education of youth, culture, historical education, volunteering, information security and preservation of traditional values.

The forum is attended by representatives of the ROC, authorities, public figures and experts.

The events began with the Divine Liturgy in the Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, and then an exhibition of icons on armor plates “Armor of Faith” was opened within the framework of the forum. The exposition will be available for visiting in the tent on the Cathedral Square until October 18, and on October 19 and 20 it will be located in the lobby of the main building of NCFU.

The uniqueness of the exhibition lies in the fact that the icons are painted on armor plates that saved Russian soldiers during a special military operation. The authors of the works were students and teachers of the Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V. I. Surikov and the Academy of Watercolor and Fine Arts of Sergei Andriyaki.

The solemn opening of the forum took place in NCFU as part of a round table dedicated to the implementation of the foundations of state policy to strengthen traditional Russian spiritual and moral values in the media space. The central topic of discussion was the role of the media and civil society institutions in promoting moral guidelines, as well as the responsibility of creators of information content.

Metropolitan Kirill of Stavropol and Nevinnomyssky, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Stavropol Forum of the World Russian People’s Council, addressed the participants of the forum.

“Today, the information space has become a field of spiritual struggle, and the moral state of society and the future of our people directly depend on the meanings of the mass media. The protection of traditional values is not only the task of the Church and the state, but also the responsibility of everyone who creates and spreads the word. Our common duty is to fill the media space with truth, goodness and creation, passing on to the younger generation those spiritual and moral guidelines that our people have kept for centuries, Metropolitan Kirill of Stavropol and Nevinnomys emphasized.

Co-Chairman of the Forum Organizing Committee, Rector of the North Caucasus Federal University, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Tatiana Shebzukhova emphasized the importance of a responsible approach to the formation of media space.

“The moral content of information is inseparable from the moral responsibility of those who create it. We need to learn to assess not only how many people saw the information, but also what happened to their understanding, attitude and trust after getting acquainted with it, she said.

Her point of view on the main vectors of the formation of spiritual and moral values among the younger generation was shared by Acting First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Stavropol Territory Olga Timofeeva.

“The war is not only on the military and economic fronts, but also on the ideological, cultural, educational and religious fronts. Strength testing is underway. Each of us. We understand that our traditional values are part of our national security. The longest struggle will be for the minds of our children. A lot depends on each of us – teachers, priests, journalists, authorities of all levels. We need to try to reach out to everyone, Olga Viktorovna stressed.

Reports and speeches at the forum were also made by the Russian director, screenwriter, journalist, general director of the media holding “Culture of Nations” Marina Zabelina, a veteran of a special military operation, lieutenant colonel, commander of the assault battalion Ahmed Kanukoev, head of public organizations “Together with Russia” and “American Club in Russia” Elena Branson, candidate of political sciences, member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation Maxim Grigoriev and other representatives of civil society, experts and media of the Stavropol Territory.

The participants of the round table discussed how to translate traditional spiritual and moral values into the public space, what formats of work are most effective for different audiences and how to build communication in the context of modern information challenges.
