In the Federation Council proposed to check the “diploma shops”
At the plenary session of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko took the initiative to analyze the work of private universities that actually sell diplomas

Valentina Matviyenko, who heads the Federation Council, took the initiative at the plenary session. She proposed to temporarily stop issuing licenses to private universities until amendments to the laws are adopted. The reason is the emergence of institutions that actually sell diplomas.
According to the speaker, a layer of private educational institutions has formed in the country, only imitating educational activities. She called for a study of their work and to decide what measures to apply to those who do not give real knowledge, but issue educational documents.
Matviyenko also believes that when opening new universities, the opinion of regional authorities, including governors and relevant ministers, should be taken into account. This will help to avoid the emergence of fictitious educational institutions.
Initiatives were made in the framework of the discussion of the quality of higher education in the Federation Council. The meeting was invited by the Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov and the head of Rosobrnadzor Anzor Muzaev. They should present measures to improve the quality of education. There are no specific decisions on Matvienko’s proposals yet.
