Five thousand new trees appeared on the territory of the Arsky district of Tatarstan, designed to strengthen the coastal zone of the Kazanka River. A large-scale environmental initiative was implemented by the regional Ministry of Ecology, the Ministry of Forestry, the Shchepovsky Foundation and the Russian Geographical Society. Financial and organizational assistance to the event was provided by Kazanorgsintez (part of SIBUR).
The created green zones serve as a natural barrier: they trap dangerous impurities, preventing them from penetrating the waterways. In addition, forest belts retain moisture in the ground, fix the soil, stop erosion processes and contribute to the revival of local flora and fauna. For the industry giant, supporting such initiatives is an integral part of ESG’s strategy. The company regularly invests in the protection of water resources, adaptation of the republic to climate change and the growth of the well-being of local residents.
Special attention was paid to the selection of plant crops. Coniferous and deciduous species are combined on the site: this neighborhood increases the immunity of seedlings to various diseases. At the initial stage of the project, spruce and oak alleys with a total area of over 4 hectares were planted in the Urnyak settlement. Such events play a key role in protecting the upper reaches of the river and maintaining the ecological balance of the region.
An integral part of the project was environmental education of the younger generation. Immediately after the reception, 30 schoolchildren personally joined the landing. The authors of the initiative express confidence that these teenagers in the future will continue to take care of the ecology and forests of their native land.
