In the Tula regional clinical hospital helped to restore the vision of a 100-year-old resident of the Kireevsky district

The Tula Regional Clinical Hospital helped restore the sight of a 100-year-old resident of the Kireevsky district. The woman was admitted to the ophthalmology department with severe cataracts of both eyes.
The patient's left eye has not been seen for five years. This summer, my eyesight disappeared completely in my right eye. After that, the woman agreed to surgical treatment.
Doctors removed cataracts on the right eye and installed an artificial lens. The operation took 20 minutes and went without complications. After the intervention, the patient’s vision improved.
During the examination, experts also found an age-related macular dystrophy in the woman. In this disease, the macula is affected - the central part of the retina, which is responsible for the clarity of the image, distinguishing small details and colors, reading and recognizing faces. The disease is chronic and progressive.
After treatment, the patient was discharged from the hospital in satisfactory condition.
The head of the ophthalmological department of the Tula Regional Clinical Hospital, the chief freelance specialist-ophthalmologist of the regional Ministry of Health Margarita Lerman said that about 2,500 cataract surgeries are carried out annually in the department. Approximately 75% of patients are people aged 60 to 100 years.
This case shows that age alone does not exclude the possibility of surgical treatment. The decision on the operation, doctors take into account the condition of the patient and the results of the examination. Modern methods help to improve vision and maintain independence even in old age.
