On the 80th year of life died Yuri Gorshenev - Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor, formerly headed the Department of Medical Physics of the Voronezh State Medical Academy, which today is called the Voronezh State Medical University (VSMU) named after Burdenko. The scientist died on October 13
The entire professional biography of Yuri Gorshenev was inextricably linked with one educational institution. After graduating from the medical faculty, he began working at the Department of Pathological Physiology. Since 1986 he has been an assistant professor of normal physiology. In the 2000s, Yuri Gorshenev headed the Department of Medical Physics.
Scientific interests of the scientist focused on the study of how hyperbaric oxygenation (therapeutic technique involving the patient’s breathing with pure oxygen at elevated atmospheric pressure in a special sealed chamber) affects the bioelectric activity of the brain. In 1974, Yuri Gorshenev successfully defended his thesis on the peculiarities of nitrogen metabolism in the brain in ischemia and hyperbaric oxygenation.
Yuri Gorshenev became the first head of the faculty of foreign students, taking up this position in September 1992. During the first year of the faculty, 60 students from abroad were enrolled, mainly citizens of Pakistan, Sudan, Palestine, Yemen and Syria. Later, the structure was repeatedly reorganized: in 2003, the faculty received the name of the International Faculty of Medical Education, and in 2008 it was transformed into the International Institute of Medical Education and Cooperation (MIMOS).
Yuri Gorshenev was one of the employees whose contribution was decisive in the creation of the pharmaceutical faculty of VSMU. The first admission of students to this direction was held in 2002.
Yuri Alekseevich was a demanding and fair teacher, a wise mentor and a talented organizer. He enjoyed the well-deserved respect of colleagues, students and graduates. So he will remain in the memory of all who knew him – with these words colleagues said goodbye to Yuri Alekseevich in the walls of the university.
The farewell ceremony with Yuri Gorshenev will be held on Thursday, October 15, beginning at 10:30. The venue is the mourning hall of the Voronezh Bureau of Forensic Examination, located at the address: Ippodromnaya Street, 18a.
