Yaroslavl State University named after P. G. Demidov hosts the All-Russian Symposium “Course to Victory: Fedor Ushakov and the Civilizational Future of Russia”. The meeting was attended by about 400 people – historians, representatives of the authorities and clergy, public figures, experts and students.
At the plenary session, the importance of the personality of Fedor Ushakov for national history and the preservation of the memory of the famous naval commander were discussed. Among the speakers were researchers from leading Russian universities. They considered the military merits of the admiral, his role in the formation of the historical image of the Russian hero, participation in the creation of the Republic of the Seven Islands and the use of materials of his biography in university education.
Within the framework of thematic sections, participants also discuss Ushakov’s charitable activities, the history of his noble family and ways to perpetuate his memory – from cinema and medallion art to the names of ships and geographical objects.
The symposium takes place on October 15, the Admiral's Day of Remembrance. As noted by the rector of YarSU Artem Ivanchin, the event is designed to promote education and patriotic education of young people. The region continues to work to preserve the heritage of Ushakov: on the eve in Yaroslavl opened his bust on the territory of the educational complex No. 28 "Volga" and mural on Moscow Avenue. The portrait on the facade of house No. 115 occupies more than 450 square meters and reaches a height of ten floors.
Special attention is paid to the village of Hopylevo, where the future naval commander was baptized. Two temples were restored there, transport accessibility was improved, gasification was carried out and infrastructure was modernized. In Rybinsk, on Frolovskaya Street, the Ushakov Museum operates, which annually receives more than 10 thousand visitors.
