Governor Vasily Anokhin said that systematic work is underway in the Smolensk region to update the bridge infrastructure. These activities are implemented within the framework of the national project “Infrastructure for Life”, initiated by President Vladimir Putin. The main purpose of the work is to ensure road safety and create comfortable conditions for both motorists and pedestrians.
One of the current facilities is the bridge over the Gobza River in Demidov, which is being repaired for the first time since 1972. At this site, the bridge has already been updated, railings have been installed and supports have been strengthened, and asphalt concrete has been laid on the roadway and pedestrian paths. A large-scale complex of works is also being carried out on the bridge over the Vazuza River in Sychevka along Lucharsky Street. After 50 years of operation, the structure is completely updated: specialists repair intermediate and coastal supports, replace span structures and install new beams. In addition, road workers strengthen the slopes of the embankment, equip water drainage, approaches to the bridge and sidewalks, and in the future it is planned to install new fences and electric lighting systems.
In parallel, the capital repair of the bridge over the Gzhzhzh River in Gagarin along Lenin Street, whose age is 67 years, continues. Here the main structures are updated, supports are repaired, span structures are changed and new beams are installed. Also, work is underway to strengthen the slopes of the embankment, the arrangement of drainage and sidewalks, and subsequently the installation of railings and barrier fences together with a lighting device is provided.
It is worth noting that the capital repair of the bridge across the Shumyachka River has already been completed in the village of Shumyachchi. The structure, built in 1979, has never been overhauled before, but today it is fully brought into a regulatory state.
