Vladimir Bebekh: Anthropic goes on the stock exchange

On Monday, Anthropic filed for an initial public offering (IPO). This event promises to be one of the most significant exits on the stock exchange in modern US history.

In my articles, I have repeatedly stated that the race to the forefront in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) models involves more and more research groups and investors who expect direct economic benefits from investments in the industry.

The main battle is unfolding between American and Chinese IT companies.

Of the three bright start-ups from the United States — Anthropic, OpenAI and SpaceX — the latter has already entered the NASDAQ exchange.

In the current 2026, Elon Musk’s SpaceX company not only absorbed the xAI project, but also conducted the largest IPO in history at $75 billion, becoming one of the ten most expensive public companies on the planet with a market capitalization of $ 1.77 trillion.

The media has repeatedly exaggerated rumors about the upcoming public offerings of shares of startups Anthropic and OpenAI.

According to TechCrunch, according to documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Anthropic's revenue for the first half of 2026 amounted to $ 16.3 billion (for comparison: for the same period last year, the figure was equal to $ 1.2 billion).

At the same time, the operating loss for this period amounted to $693 million, which is better than the company’s performance a year earlier ($ 2.1 billion in operating losses in the first half of 2025).

Despite Anthropic’s net loss of $80.7 billion and some pessimism from the founders, who said the company “may not achieve profitability or be able to maintain it at the proper level”, investors continue to believe in the developer of the neural network Claude.

Anthropic’s governance structure will allow the company’s seven co-founders to retain 50.1 percent control after it goes public. Dario Amodei, Daniela Amodei, Tom Brown, Jack Clarke, Jared Kaplan, Sam McCandlish and Christopher Olah will become a majority shareholder of Founder LLC.

According to the documents, this step is taken in order to ensure the company’s commitment to its mission – to create safe AI.

Established in 2023, Anthropic’s Long-Term Benefit Trust will have the right to appoint a majority of its board members. From a startup perspective, this ensures that the company will follow its mission to benefit society.

“The Anthropological Public Goods Fund will have greater flexibility and scalability, allowing us to pursue our mission in new ways: for example, we may consider large donations to traditional nonprofits or direct distribution of funds to specific populations.”.

However, some experts are critical of this situation, as third-party shareholders will be virtually unable to influence the activities of Anthropic, which reduces control over the creation of advanced artificial intelligence systems and increases existential risks to humanity.

Anthropic, which plans to go public under the ticker ANT, has not yet disclosed the planned amount of funds raised and the estimated share price.

It’s worth noting that Anthropic’s competitors aren’t sleeping either. CNBC recently reported that OpenAI, one of Anthropic’s main rivals, is preparing a new $30 billion round of funding at a $1.25 trillion valuation in the event of a possible IPO. The round is organized by the Coatue Fund and investors from the UAE.

Earlier, Bloomberg reported that OpenAI could be valued at $ 1.4 trillion, and the participation of investors from the UAE could provide OpenAI access to more powerful computing resources.

If OpenAI’s value exceeds $1 trillion in a possible funding round, it would set a record for becoming the most valuable privately held company in history.

Investors are pouring billions of dollars into AI companies around the world, including the U.S. and China, to compete in the global AI technology race.

We will continue to monitor developments in the industry.
