Instead of snowdrifts – dirt: climatologist told about the coming winter in the Central Federal District
Russia looks set for unusually warm winter

Russia appears to be preparing for an unusually warm winter. Climatologists warn of a record warm season of 2026-2027, which in some regions will turn into almost complete absence of snow. Most likely, not to pass this and the Tula region.
The forecast was voiced by climatologist, senior researcher at the Institute of Cell Biophysics of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexei Karnaukhov in a conversation with IS "Vesti". According to him, the cause of the anomaly lies on the other side of the planet – a record phenomenon is now playing out in the Pacific Ocean, which will spur global warming, and this effect will manifest itself especially strongly in Russia.
“This year there may be a repetition of snowless winters. In the Pacific, a record phenomenon is playing out that will increase global temperatures, and in Russia this increase will be stronger. Snowfalls can melt very quickly, Karnaukhov said.
The scheme, according to the scientist, looks like this: ocean anomalies rebuild the weather over Eurasia, and even heavy snowfalls do not have time to gain a foothold - precipitation melts during the next thaw. Sustainable snow cover may never form. For Tula summer residents and utilities, this means that the usual picture of “snow fell in November and melted in March” becomes more nostalgia than reality.
The timing of the onset of winter has also shifted, the expert emphasizes. Previously, in most regions, snow fell in November, but now even December does not guarantee a white picture outside the window.
“It is absolutely unrealistic to expect sustained snow cover in November until March. In recent years, New Year’s Eve with slush and rain has become a common phenomenon. This is due to global warming, explained the climatologist.
In other words, the New Year in Tula and throughout the European part of Russia, residents are increasingly greeted in rubber boots, not in boots.
