Volgograd called the rules of preservation of dog health
RKF expert Vladimir Golubev told how to prevent diseases in a pet and keep it well

The health of a dog is determined not only by the absence of diseases, but also by the quality of life. Proper care, sufficient physical activity and a stable environment form the base that helps prevent many threats. At the same time, both regular visits to the veterinarian and daily habits that the owner can implement independently are important.
President of the Russian Canine Federation Vladimir Golubev noted that there are many nuances that make up the health of a dog. Among them is a planned vaccination once a year, and for an adult, a veterinarian is desirable every six months. Just as important are the daily rules.
One of the most common mistakes is overfeeding. Excess weight reduces life expectancy and leads to serious health problems. Often it occurs due to a lack of discipline, misunderstanding of the daily norm and feeding from the table. Each age has its own standards, so it is recommended to weigh the daily portion using kitchen scales. A slight deviation in the direction of decrease or increase leads to the fact that the dog either loses the norm or gains weight. Human food from the table is strictly prohibited, as it can cause poisoning. As delicacies, it is better to use allowed vegetables, fruits and dried meat.
A useful habit is to check and feel your dog every day during a light massage or stroking. It takes no more than 15 minutes and does not cause discomfort. Inspection begins with the ears and teeth: it is important to pay attention to unpleasant discharge and smell. Then palpate the stomach, stroke the whole body to make sure there are no subcutaneous cones and painful places. Special attention is required pads and trips to the toilet. Early diagnosis saves time and money.
Access to water should be constant, day and night. The bowl should be kept clean, regularly change the water, especially in the heat. During the heating season, when the air becomes dry, mucous dogs suffer, which increases their vulnerability to infections. In this case, a humidifier and a hygrometer are useful for controlling humidity.
Physical activity is important, but a reasonable interval is needed between it and feeding. A stomach twist is a common cause of sudden death of dogs, and it can be triggered by a load after a meal. 1 hour before meals and 2 hours after meals, active games, jumps and long walks are excluded. After feeding, the dog should rest, and sleep after eating should not be disturbed - all family members should remember this.
The environment strongly affects the condition of the dog, and chronic stress negatively affects health. If the pet is in an unstable environment, even the implementation of other rules loses its effect. Symptoms of chronic stress - sleep disturbance, apathy, change in appetite and the appearance of aggression. Prevention is always easier, cheaper and more humane than treatment. An integrated approach to these rules will eventually turn them into useful habits that will give the dog long and happy years of life.
