Volgograd residents told how to protect themselves from remote fraudsters
To avoid becoming a victim of remote fraudsters, it is necessary to follow the rules of digital security: do not answer calls from unfamiliar numbers, check suspicious contacts, do not open dubious links and enable two-factor authentication. Such recommendations were published by the press service of the capital’s Central Board of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

According to RIA Novosti, the list of precautions was presented to journalists at a press conference “Fighting cyber fraud”. The department advises not only to avoid returning calls to unknown numbers, but also to check them through the browser to find out whether they are associated with fraudulent activity.
Special attention was paid to the security of accounts. For additional protection of accounts, it is recommended to activate two-factor authentication. If a suspicious message is received, the sender should be contacted by contacts that are known and checked in advance.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs also stressed that employees of banks, law enforcement agencies, telecom operators and security services do not use messengers to communicate with citizens. If it is necessary to establish the identity of the interlocutor, you need to ask additional questions, and not trust only his words or information presented.
Another recommendation concerns telephone conversations. The department warned that speech and video images can be recorded and processed. Therefore, when communicating with unknown people, you should keep the conversation to a minimum and not say the words “Yes”, “I confirm”, “I agree”, and also not to disclose your surname, name and patronymic.
To reduce the risk of infection of the device with malware, it is recommended to disable automatic downloading files in the messenger settings and install an antivirus.
Experts also advise not to enter logins and passwords on pages opened by links from unknown senders. If the authorization site looks unusual or suspicious, it should be closed, and then log in to the desired service through the official application or verified site.
If the user suspects fraud, the password should be changed immediately. If the data has already been entered on a questionable page, it is necessary to update the password of the email and all related services as soon as possible, as well as check the login history for suspicious activity.
