Volgograd residents warned against fraudulent calls from swapping numbers

Criminals can make large-scale phone calls and send messages by masking their numbers with SIM boxes. According to the Main Military Investigation Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee of Russia, the maintenance of this equipment is carried out by ordinary people who are misled, presenting it as a tool for marketing campaigns.

To implement their schemes, fraudsters use special equipment that allows you to simultaneously use many SIM cards. This equipment allows them to make mass calls and send messages, including for fraudulent activities.

As reported in the video, distributed by the Agency, to configure and support SIM-boxes criminals place job ads or send messages in messengers. They offer citizens “easy earnings”: get a device, connect it to the network and ensure smooth operation. Scammers claim that we are talking about equipment for communication, testing telephone systems, marketing or IP-telephony.

A person who has installed such a device at home may not be aware of the content of conversations passing through it. However, in fact, his apartment becomes part of the criminal infrastructure through which fraudsters communicate.

The Investigative Committee recalls that criminal liability for most crimes comes from the age of 16, and for especially serious acts, such as a terrorist act or sabotage, from the age of 14.

In case of receiving a suspicious call, the department’s employees advise not to pass on their personal data, bank card information or codes from SMS to strangers. If the interlocutor insists on the immediate transfer of funds or other actions, it is recommended to interrupt the conversation.
