Volgograd residents are waiting for a calm geomagnetic situation on October 16

On Friday, the geomagnetic situation is expected to be calm, as the planet is gradually recovering from a powerful storm at the beginning of the month. According to experts, on October 16, the magnetosphere will be in a calm state: without serious shocks that could affect the well-being of weather-dependent people or the work of technology.

According to observations, including from NOAA and the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the IKI RAS, the planetary index of geomagnetic activity Kp during the day will mainly remain in the range of 1.7-2.7. For comparison, a weak magnetic storm begins when Kp is equal to or greater than 5 – it will not reach this level on October 16. The most noticeable increase is expected in the early morning, from 06.00 to 09.00, but even then the level will remain well below the storm threshold.

Although no major magnetic disturbances are expected, the Sun will continue to resemble itself. Its surface is still active, and experts predict an outbreak of class M. They will not cause a strong magnetic storm on Earth by themselves, but they can cause temporary interference in short-wave radio communications.

For most people, the day will pass without noticeable geomagnetic surprises. However, in the morning, weather-dependent people may feel a slight discomfort - it will be associated more with individual sensitivity than with a real storm.
