Volgograd doctors restored the sight of 80-year-old patient
Surgical intervention was carried out using modern microsurgical techniques

According to the Health Committee of the Volgograd region, specialists of the Volgograd Regional Clinical Hospital No. 1 conducted a jewelry operation that allowed the 80-year-old patient to preserve her sight. The case was not easy: the woman was diagnosed with two ophthalmic diseases that threatened complete loss of vision.
Initially, the patient went to the doctors with complaints of deterioration of vision of the left eye. Previously, she had already undergone cataract surgery on the other eye, but now the situation repeated: the image became increasingly blurred, there was a pronounced veil, reading became impossible. Drug treatment did not bring relief.
As told in the health Committee, detailed diagnosis allowed to identify complicated immature cataracts of the left eye and pterygium – the growth of the mucous membrane, capturing the cornea. Both conditions required a prompt solution, so the doctors of the department of microsurgery decided on a combined operation.
Under local anesthesia through microaccess, specialists destroyed and removed the clouded lens using ultrasound, then installed an intraocular lens. In parallel, the pathological film on the cornea was eliminated. This approach allowed not only to restore the transparency of optical media, but also to minimize the risks of complications.
The woman is currently undergoing treatment in the department. According to the health Committee of the Volgograd region, the prognosis is favorable: visual functions are gradually restored, the patient continues to observe the attending doctors.
