Volgograd gardeners told why reynutria should not be planted on the site
The agronomists told how to prevent its spread and what to do if the plant has already seized the land.

Far Eastern Reinutria attracts gardeners with rapid growth and decorativeness, but experts warn: without control, this plant can capture the entire site and displace cultural plantations. This is warned by agronomists of the Donetsk branch of the Rosselkhozcenter.
At home in Asia, the spread of reinutria is restrained by many insects and fungi. In Russia, there are almost no natural enemies. The main danger is a powerful rhizome, which goes deep into the soil and occupies new territories, displacing other plants.
If reinutria has already grown, it is not easy to get rid of it. Experts advise to carefully choose the roots manually: even a small remaining fragment can give a new growth. With large thickets, the use of systemic herbicides may be required. Young shoots should be removed as early as possible, preventing them from growing leaves and nourishing the root system.
After cleaning the site, the soil should not be left empty: in autumn or early spring, it is recommended to sow siderats.
Agronomists warn against common mistakes. Reinutria can not be mowed or crushed with a milling cutter - each cut root can give new shoots. The plant can also not be sent to compost, where it is able to take root and winter. It is not recommended to use land from the place where the weed grew for transplants.
