Voronezh Epiphany Church will undergo scientific restoration
Completion of work is expected by the end of 2027

One of the oldest temples of Voronezh, the Epiphany Church, is awaiting restoration. The work was coordinated by the regional department for the protection of cultural heritage objects, the department said. The building on the street 25 October, 17a has the status of a cultural heritage site of regional importance. The customer is a local religious organization; the work is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
Before updating the facades, experts decided to leave in its current form small illustrative fragments of brickwork and finishing layers. After the restoration, visitors will be able to see authentic traces of the history of the temple, not hidden by later changes.
The church dates back to 1647, when it was founded in the Pushkar Sloboda. The stone building was built in 1763, and in 1841 a rare chapel of St. Pelagia appeared. The temple survived fires and reconstructions, there was a unique wooden statue of Christ. In the 1930s, the church was closed, and for a long time a sewing shop was located within its walls. The building was returned to the diocese in the late 1980s, and now it will undergo professional scientific restoration.
