In the neurosurgical department No. 2 of the Murmansk regional clinical hospital named after Bayandin for the first time in the region performed sarcoplasty with a low-energy fracture of the sacrum. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Health of the region.
Such fractures often occur in older people even with a mild injury, for example, when falling from a height of their own height. The fact is that bone tissue becomes less dense with age.
So, a patient of about 80 years with diagnosed osteoporosis came with severe pain syndrome. She had a fracture of the left side mass of the sacrum. And she decided to do a new procedure for the region - sarcoplasty.
The head physician of the hospital Sergey Chukseev noted that the first successful performance of sacroplasty opened up new opportunities for the treatment of elderly patients with osteoporetic fractures. According to him, they are trying to make such assistance more accessible in the region so that people do not need to travel beyond its borders.
Sarcoplasty doctors do through a small puncture or a very small incision, and not through a large open operation.
So, bone cement is introduced into the fracture zone under X-ray control. This stabilizes fragments, restricts micromotion and relieves pain.
The operation lasts 30-40 minutes. Patients can get up in a few hours, special rehabilitation is not necessary. According to studies, three months after surgery, the level of pain decreases by an average of two to three times.
Previously, such patients were treated conservatively, which required longer bed rest and did not always give the necessary pain control.
Earlier, “MK in Murmansk” said that in the Murmansk region for the first time conducted a unique operation on the ureters five-year-old child.
