The second life: in the Ivnya district restore the temple with history
The difficult history of the temple of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker

In the village of Studenok of the Ivnyan district of the Belgorod region, the temple of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is being restored. Everyone works: from local residents to patrons.
Through the ages
When exactly the temple was built is unknown, but the first archival mention of it dates back to 1862. In 1908, the “Reference Book on Churches, Parishes and Parables of the Kursk Diocese” already contained information about the church and church ministers.
After the revolution, the church was abandoned, and before the Great Patriotic War it was transferred to the local collective farm. The building stored first grain, and then chemical fertilizers.
The ancient temple survived the revolution and Soviet years. Due to the lack of proper care, it gradually collapsed, and after the collapse of the USSR finally fell into decline.
Save the shrine
The painting of the temple is done by the teacher in the class of fine arts of the Ivnya children's school of art Olga Lazareva. She began to restore the frescoes even before the start of repair work. But, according to the artist, the temple needs not only internal but also external repairs.
For a long time St. Nicholas Church was without a roof and domes, with broken windows. Significant changes began after the arrival of Father Ivan. For more than a year, services have been held there, and in the summer, in order not to interfere with the builders, services are held on the street.
Waiting for an update
Alexander Basenkov with 20 years of experience in construction headed the restoration of the temple. He works with a team that includes spouses Larisa and Valentine.
All residents of the small Ivnyan village are waiting for services to be held under the roof of the renovated church. And the repair team, and local residents, and patrons – knows their business and tries to contribute as much as possible.
Since September 2024, collection of donations has been opened for the restoration of the temple. More details - in the material "BelPress".
We will remind, the mayor of Belgorod Valentin Demidov returned to the finalization of the project of improvement of the Cretaceous Mountain
