Second graders from the Przewalski Gymnasium visited the Museum of History of Smolensk State Medical University

With the beginning of the new academic year, career guidance and excursion work was intensified in the Museum of History of SSMU. The museum holds classes on the history of medicine for students of all faculties, and also organizes excursions for freshmen.
October 12, 2026 guests of the museum were second-graders of the gymnasium named after N. M. Przhevalsky. The visit was held within the framework of the educational program “ABC of professions”, the purpose of which is to familiarize schoolchildren with various areas of activity. Museum staff tried to reveal medicine not through complex terms, but through stories of help and care, turning the tour into a fascinating adventure with live stories instead of dry lectures.
At the beginning of the route, the guys got acquainted with antique medical instruments such as brass syringes, stethoscopes with wooden parts and pharmacy scales. In a specially prepared area, children could see safe copies of tools, which allowed them to clearly see that the profession requires not only knowledge, but also attention to detail and care for people.
During the event, the organizers answered numerous questions of schoolchildren, trying to maintain their interest. The main emphasis in the conversations was made on the fact that medicine is primarily a responsibility and help, and different medical specialties are suitable for different people depending on their aptitudes for research, direct work with patients or organization of processes in the hospital.
The class teacher noted that the tour helped children to see the medical profession as a clear and necessary work, and not as something distant and complex. For many students, this visit was the first step to realizing that life choices begin with curiosity and small discoveries. The ABC of Professions program continues to introduce schoolchildren to the world of specialties, and for students of the Przhevalsky Gymnasium, a visit to the SSMU History Museum became an inspiring event.
