Yamal residents urged not to feed migratory birds

Yamal residents were urged to refrain from feeding wild migratory birds. As explained by Yamal-Media in the Service for the Protection of Biological Resources of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, this can disrupt natural migration habits and prevent Emppernates from surviving the winter.

If birds get used to receiving food from people, they can linger near bodies of water that are covered with ice in winter. This, in turn, puts them at risk of death.

The service recommended watching birds from afar, maintaining natural forage bases, not littering near the water, and not interfering in the preparation of birds for the flight. For example, one of the flocks stopped at Lake Lebyazhyem in Salekhard.

In Yamal, you can get a fine for feeding birds in public places. Photo or video recording is required to initiate an administrative case.
