For a bribe of 500 BYN and a bottle of cognac, a Minsk citizen can face up to seven years in prison

The photo is illustrative in nature

Since August 2018, the defendant held the position of head of the energy service department at one of the capital’s plants and was an official who performed organizational, administrative and administrative duties. He was also authorized to take legally significant actions.

Once the defendant contacted a representative of a private company that leased production areas on the territory of the plant, and reported that the company was illegally connected to the power grid of their enterprise and for such a large fine is due. At the same time, the attacker hinted that prosecution can be avoided by handing him a certain amount and a bottle of alcohol.

On the day when the head of the department came to the shop of the company to check the readings of meters and take pictures of them, 500 BYN and cognac were handed over to him as a bribe. Having received them, he said that the contract for the supply of electricity is ready and can be taken away.

When this became known, a criminal case was opened against the dishonest employee.

- The accused has a higher education, he is married, he has a minor daughter on a dependent basis, he was not previously brought to criminal responsibility, Timur Stuzhuk, deputy prosecutor of the Partizan district, commented. He is charged with accepting by an official for himself material values provided solely in connection with his official position, for a favorable solution of issues within his competence, performing and not performing in the interests of the person giving the bribe and the persons represented by him, any action that this person could have committed using his official powers (receiving a bribe), that is, in committing a crime under Part 1 of Art. 430 of the Criminal Code, the sanction of which is up to seven years of imprisonment with a fine and with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities. The citizen fully acknowledged the guilt, repented of what he had done, voluntarily paid the illegal income obtained by criminal means. A preventive measure was applied against the accused in the form of a subscription not to leave and proper behavior.
