Minsk IT specialist sentenced to four years in prison for large-scale bribe

The sentence was handed down to a 46-year-old previously unconvicted citizen who was accused of receiving a bribe on a large scale, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti agency was told in the prosecutor's office of the Pervomaysky district.

The defendant from February 2016 to March 2018 held the position of Deputy Head of the Information Technology Department of one of the credit and financial organizations and was an official endowed with organizational and administrative powers. He was also entitled to take legally significant actions.

The investigation found that during this period, the employee in two stages received from a representative of a private company in which he previously worked, an illegal remuneration of $ 10,100. It was intended to lobby the interests of the company, assist in concluding two contracts for the implementation and maintenance of software, the development of technical specifications, etc. When this became known, a criminal case was opened against the suspect.

In court, he fully admitted guilt in the incriminated crime, in what he did sincerely repented, paid the income received by criminal means.

- The accused has a higher education, is married, has a minor child dependent, has not previously been brought to criminal responsibility, said Yulia Lugovskaya, senior assistant prosecutor of the Pervomaysky district, who acted in the criminal case as a state prosecutor. The court found him guilty of accepting by an official for himself material values provided solely in connection with his official position, for a favorable solution of issues within his competence, as well as for performing in the interests of the briber any action that this person should have and could have performed using official powers (receiving a bribe), on a large scale, and on the basis of Part 2 of Article 430 of the Criminal Code imposed a sentence of deprivation of liberty for four years, which the accused will spend in a correctional colony under enhanced regime, with deprivation of the right to hold positions related to the performance of organizational and administrative duties for five years and legally significant actions.
