The calm before the storm: left one day before the protracted geomagnetic storm
On Monday, October 19, the geomagnetic situation will be deceptively calm, but astronomers have already recorded signs of a coming storm on the Sun
During daylight, the stable state of the magnetosphere is predicted. The index of geomagnetic activity Kp will fluctuate within only 1-2 points, which, according to the classification of the Solar Astronomy Laboratory, IKI RAS and ISZF is considered a calm background. Healthy people and even most weather-sensitive Novosibirsk residents will not feel any cosmic impact, so the day is perfect for walking in the fresh air and active work.
However, experts do not advise to relax: according to the calculations of mathematical models, the probability of outbreaks of middle class M on these days reaches 70%, and for extreme class X - about 10-15%. The residents of the Siberian capital will feel the first harbingers of the storm closer to midnight – on the night of October 19-20, geomagnetic fluctuations will gradually increase to an excited state of 3-4 points.
Already on Tuesday, the region will be covered by a full-fledged weak magnetic storm of the G1 level, so weather-dependent Novosibirsk residents are recommended to reduce physical activity in advance, control blood pressure and avoid stressful situations.
