Tomorrow, October 15, the Orthodox Church honors 10 saints. Particularly distinguished from this number are the holy noble princess Anna of Kashin and the hieromartyr Cyprian.
Cyprian lived in Antioch and from childhood studied pagan philosophy, and reaching maturity, was ordained as a priest. He was said to have gained great power and seen the prince of darkness himself.
In the same city lived the girl Justina, who not only accepted Christianity, but also converted her parents to her faith. The young man Aglaid, trying to seduce Justina, turned to Cyprian for help, but despite the charms of the priest, the girl remained adamant. This led Cyprian to believe in Christ himself. With repentance he came to church and was baptized.
Later, Cyprian fervently preached Christianity and converted so many pagans to Christianity that all the temples in his diocese were abandoned - there was simply no one to sacrifice to idols. Justina retired to the monastery and became an abbess there. During the persecution of Christians, according to legend, both of them were captured, the pagans subjected them to torture and, in the end, executed. Seeing the sufferings of Christians, the warrior Theoctistus, who stood guard, also declared himself a Christian and was executed along with Cyprian and Justina.
