Animals are taken care of here. We can join you!
On the occasion of World Animal Welfare Day, a charity event was held at the COMES shelter in Almaty region - volunteers, journalists, bloggers and employees of the companies came to help with cleaning, get acquainted with wards and support people for whom animal rescue has become a daily work

COMES was founded in 2018 by brother and sister Yulia and Sergey Snegireva. More than 400 animals live here today. In addition to dogs and cats, a horse, a donkey and goats have recently appeared among the wards. Each of them has its own story, and the work of the shelter – the daily care of nutrition, treatment, safety and recovery of those who survived injuries or were left homeless.
Saturday was an opportunity to see the work from the inside. The guests got acquainted with the animals, learned about their fates, helped to put the territory in order and devoted time to the wards. For the shelter team, such meetings are also important because they allow you to talk about needs that are not always noticeable from the outside: from household supplies to the cost of treatment and preparation for the winter.
Almost every week Yulia picks up dogs in serious condition, which need urgent help. Rescue is not limited to capture services. Recently, a kitten with severe eye injuries entered the care of the team. He is currently in a veterinary clinic and is receiving treatment. Such cases require a quick solution, and then time, funds and constant care.
An important part of COMES' work is finding families for wards. Treatment and rehabilitation help animals recover, but the ultimate goal is to find someone who can care for them for life. Sometimes this path leads beyond Kazakhstan.
Our wards find a home not only in our country. Now we are preparing to send a puppy, which is already waiting for the owners abroad. We managed to reach a preliminary agreement with the airline, and now we are looking for a person who could accompany him. It is important for us that the path to a new family is safe. There is a lot of organizational work behind such a move, but the most important thing is that the puppy has people ready to accept him and take care of him, Yulia Snegireva said.
Such stories help to understand how many stages the animal passes on the way to home: rescue, examination, treatment, recovery, acquaintance with future owners. Support is needed for each of them. Therefore, assistance to a shelter can be different - from participation in a Saturday to assistance with transport or payment for veterinary care.
I am very grateful to everyone who responded and came here today. Special thanks to the company Purina, which organized a trip and transfer for media and bloggers and provided products for animals. Fix Price also handed over products for cats, BETA Tea provided tea for our tea party, and SAMAL provided drinking water to the participants. We appreciate that everyone has contributed. It was a warm day in which there was a place for work, communication, and attention to animals.
After working together, the participants gathered for a tea party. The meeting provided an opportunity to ask questions to the shelter team, discuss further participation and better understand how the daily care of hundreds of wards is arranged.
With the onset of cold weather, COMES becomes more tasked with preparing places for the winter. The shelter constantly needs food, funds for treatment, household supplies and the help of volunteers. You can also support it informationally: tell about wards who need a home, or share an actual request for help.
It is very important for us to feel that there are people who care about the fate of our animals. Someone can come and help with their hands, someone can bring food, support treatment or talk about a pet looking for a family. Everyone has their own opportunities and we are grateful for any participation. It is thanks to this support that we can continue to care for those who already live in the shelter and help new animals, Yulia Snegireva stressed.
World Animal Welfare Day was the occasion for this meeting, and working together was an opportunity to continue helping after it. For someone, acquaintance with the shelter can be the beginning of volunteering, for someone - the first step to the decision to take a pet into the family.
