Tomorrow in Kalmykia will honor the memory of St. Philip, the apostle of seventy.
He came from Caesarea of Palestine. The disciples of Jesus Christ chose him among the deacons following Saint Stephen. When the persecution of Christians began, Stephen died, and Philip left Jerusalem and came to one of the Samaritan cities, where he began to preach his faith. The apostle not only spoke about Christ, but also, according to legend, worked miracles, cast out unclean spirits, healed the sick and infirm. Because of this, many Gentiles believed in Christ.
Philip had four daughters who were also faithful Christians. The girls had a prophetic gift, and one of them, Hermione, knew the art of medicine and knew how to treat people. According to legend, Philip ended his life in the city of Trallia, where he served as a bishop.
