Attackers began to actively use video calls in messengers for treacherous theft of personal data of Russians. This was told in the press service of the Department for Countering Cybercrime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region.
The scheme of deception is as follows:
1. The fraudster contacts the user, posing as an employee of the support service, and reports suspicious activity in his account on Public Services.
2. Under the pretext of “security check” or access restoration, the victim is asked to follow a phishing link, take a video identification, or turn on the camera. Fake login pages are also used to steal data.
3. The obtained passwords, SMS codes and personal information are used to hack accounts and other criminal activities.
How not to become a victim?
Do not follow links from unknown persons in messengers. Refuse video calls and identification at the request of strangers. Never share passwords, SMS codes or other sensitive data. Check the security notifications only in the official application or on the website of "Public Services". At the slightest suspicion, change the password in the settings yourself and check the list of active sessions.
