The current European champion Murad Chopanov will fight for bronze at the world championship in Baku.

Chopanov won the first two fights in the category up to 66 kg, but in the quarterfinals lost to the current world champion Japanese Takeshi Takeoka.

In a consolation fight, the rival of the Russian was the Italian Valerio Accoli. At the last minute, Chopanov received a dissection on his face and the fight had to be interrupted. The Russian returned with his head bandaged and brought the fight to victory.

Chopanov's rival for bronze will be the bronze medalist of the Olympics in Paris, the Moldovan judoka Denis Vieru.

The World Cup started the day before. So far, the Russian team has one bronze (Sabina Gilyazova in weight up to 48 kg).
