Malkin’s phrase about his “last year” reacted to Ovechkin’s statement
Malkin wished Ovechkin to do without injuries in the final season in the NHL. The forward admitted that at 40 years old it is difficult for him to play so many games and he can also leave the league at the end of the season

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeny Malkin admitted that he could leave the NHL at the end of this season, as well as Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin. The video with his comment was published by journalist Dan Potash in the social network X.
Ovechkin, 41, said Monday that the season will be his last in the NHL, where he has played since 2005.
Maybe he understands that the league is strong and it’s not easy [to play in it] as it is for me. This may be my last season as well. I still love playing hockey, but it's not easy to play every game every night, said Malkin, 40.
Malkin called Ovechkin a legend and noted that he did everything he could for the team and the NHL. "I hope he plays well this season, without injuries, is healthy, scores goals and enjoys the games," the Pittsburgh forward added.
Malkin joined the league in 2006 and spent his entire career with the same team, winning three Stanley Cups. In May, Malkin also extended his contract for one season.
