Lionel Messi played his last match for Argentina, in which he scored a goal. The game against the Benin team took place at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires.

The 39-year-old striker scored from a penalty in the 71st minute, bringing his goals score for the national team to 126. He also gave two assists.

Messi interrupted a three-game penalty streak. Now his statistics are 117 realized and 35 unrealized blows from the eleven-meter mark.

Before his last match for the national team, 39-year-old Messi suffered a series of setbacks with penalties at the world Cup-2026 and for the club “Inter Miami”. In the summer, he became the first player in history not to score two penalties in regular time at a single World Cup.

Messi has played for Argentina since 2005, has played 208 games and scored 126 goals. As part of the team, he won the 2022 World Cup, two Copa America (2021, 2024) and many other trophies.
