Alcaras slams ATP calendar workload as injuries rise
Alcaras has spoken out about an overburdened ATP calendar amid an early end to the season by Yannick Sinner due to injury. The Spaniard said that players are forced to play in a large number of tournaments

Spaniard Carlos Alcaras spoke about the problem of an overloaded calendar in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) against the background of the injury of the first racket of the world Yannick Sinner, because of which the Italian finished the season ahead of schedule.
Sinner announced on October 6 that he will no longer play this season due to knee problems. He has not been on the court since July 12, when he beat Alexander Zverev of Germany in the Wimbledon final and won the fifth Grand Slam title of his career. The Italian also missed the US Open.
“One of the reasons we see players getting injured is because we’re being forced to play too much – we have to play a huge number of tournaments and matches.” The situation is becoming alarming. I want to wish Yannick Sinner all the best and hope he’s okay by next season and we’ll see him again soon. I think the organisers need to take a little closer look at what is happening to the players on the tour right now, Alcaras said in a video published by TNT Sports.
The 23-year-old has missed almost half of the season. He has not played since April 15 due to a right wrist injury and resumed tournaments only at the US Open in late August, where he lost to American Ben Shelton in the quarterfinals.
In August, the Professional Tennis Association (PTPA) complained about an increase in injuries to players, linking it to an overloaded calendar. Then a number of tennis players withdrew from tournaments due to damage.
On account of Alcaras, the third racket of the world, 27 ATP titles. The Spaniard has won seven Grand Slam titles – Roland Garros (2024, 2025), Wimbledon (2023, 2024), US Open (2022, 2025) and Australian Open (2026).
