NBA champion and record holder Gilges-Alexander becomes Atletico shareholder

Champion of the National Basketball Association (NBA) in the “Oklahoma City Thunder” Shay Gilges-Alexander entered the group of co-owners of Madrid “Atletico”, the press service of the club.

I am delighted to officially join the Atletico shareholder group. It is a club with a rich history at the top of European football and I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of its future, said Gilges-Alexander.

His investment demonstrates his interest in the club’s long-term strategy and international development.

The amount of the investment and the size of the purchased stake were not disclosed. The majority shareholder of Atletico is Apollo Sports Capital.

Gilges-Alexander twice in a row was recognized as the most valuable player (MVP) of the regular championship of the NBA (2025, 2026), in 2025 led Oklahoma to the championship title and was recognized as the MVP of the finals.

In March, he set the NBA record for the most consecutive games with at least 20 points, surpassing Wilt Chamberlain's achievement (126 games) and bringing his streak to 140.
