Former captain of the women’s hockey club “Agidel” Julia Karpova died on the 43rd year of life. This was announced on October 10 by the press service of the team in its Telegram channel.
“The club expresses its sincere condolences to Yulia’s family and friends. Tomorrow's match with SCSO will begin with a minute of silence, the club said in a statement, for which she played from 2011 to 2013.
It is also noted that for a long time the athlete struggled with cancer. On diagnosed cancer, the press service of the Women's Hockey League reported in May.
As a player, Karpov defended the colors of Moscow Spartak, Nizhny Novgorod SKIF and St. Petersburg Dynamo. Karpova is a champion of Russia, a repeated medalist of the national championship and a silver medalist of the European Champions Cup. At the end of her playing career, Karpova worked in the coaching staff of Dynamo St. Petersburg.
Karpova is the granddaughter of Honored Coach of the USSR Nikolai Karpov. Under his leadership, Moscow Spartak won the gold of the national championship twice (in 1969 and 1976) and won the USSR Cup in 1970.
