Representative of Germany Alexander Zverev for the first time in his career will finish the season with the first racket in the world, the press service of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) reports.
Zverev, 29, will become the first German tennis player in history to finish the year at the top of the ATP rankings.
Zverev will also become the oldest tennis player to finish the season on the first line. On the date of publication of the final ranking (November 23, 2026), he will be 29 years and 217 days — three days more than the American Andre Agassi in 1999 (29 years and 214 days).
It’s a fantastic season for me, I won [Grand Slam tournaments] in Paris and New York. The realization that I will end the year at the top of the rankings is a dream come true. So much work and effort was put into achieving this goal, especially after returning from an ankle injury, Zverev said.
At the moment, Zverev with 9720 points takes second place in the world ranking, second only to Yannik Sinner, who has 11 thousand points. At the same time, the Italian announced the early end of the season due to injury. Thus, Sinner will lose rating points and give Zverev the first line.
In 2026, Zverev won titles at Grand Slam tournaments for the first time in his career: he won at Roland Garros and the US Open. In addition, he reached the Wimbledon final, where he lost to Sinner.
Zverev is an Olympic champion of Tokyo, winner of 26 ATP tournaments. His parents are Soviet tennis players Alexander Zverev and Irina Fateeva.
