World swimming champion to miss OI-2028 after suspension due to road accident
The Japan Swimming Federation suspended Tomora Honda for 21 months until August 2028. Therefore, he will not be able to participate in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, which start in July

The Japanese Swimming Federation has disqualified World Swimming Champion Tomoru Honda until August 2028 due to an accident last year. According to the South China Morning Post.
A 21-month suspension imposed on the 24-year-old precludes him from competing in the Los Angeles Olympics. Representatives of the federation said that the decision will not be reviewed. The 2028 Olympics will start on July 14.
In November last year in the city of Tama (western part of Tokyo), Honda was moving at a speed of 88 to 108 km / h on the site where the permitted speed is 30 km / h. At some point, he sharply turned the steering wheel, drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a car traveling towards him. The collision injured the driver of another car – a man aged about 60 years. He suffered a number of fractures, including his sternum. Honda was sentenced to one year in prison on probation (with a probation term of three years) for dangerous driving.
At the Olympics in Tokyo, Honda became a silver medalist in the 200 m butterfly. He also managed to win at this distance at the 2024 World Cup.
