Slovene Tim Farczyk has been elected the new president of the International Biathlon Union (IBU). The election took place at the organization's congress in Berchtesgaden, Germany, where he was the only candidate for the position. This was reported by the IBU press service.
Farnik, who is 47, has been on the IBU Executive Committee since September 2022. He replaced Swede Olle Dahlin, who has led the union since 2018 and was not eligible to run for a new term.
In 2026, the Russian Biathlon Union filed a lawsuit with the Court of Arbitration for Sport demanding that the suspension of Russian athletes, which has been in effect since the spring of 2022, be lifted. Earlier, the previous president, Mr. Dahlin, said that the organization does not plan to return Russians to the competition, despite the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee.
