KHL club “Metallurg” suspended from work the head coach Andrei Razin

Magnitogorsk hockey club "Metallurg" suspended from work the head coach Andrey Razin. Acting duties appointed Vladimir Vorobyov.

The club's director, Alexei Zhloba, said the differences between the players and the coach "stopped being resolved within the team and began to affect the working climate." He also stressed that the removal of the 52-year-old specialist "is not a final verdict, but a managerial decision that allows us to stop the escalation and assess the situation without pressure from the outside.".

During the current season of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), Andrei Razin has repeatedly criticized the performance of the team’s highest-paid hockey player, striker Vladimir Tkachev. At a press conference after the match with Astana “Barys” the coach was asked a question about the striker’s game. In response, he cursed obscenely, and also asked journalists if he should give Tkachev a “plate with a blue stone” and “blow his ass” so that he began to play. "Metallurgist" applied disciplinary punishment to the mentor.

Andrey Razin headed Metallurg in April 2023. In the first season under his leadership, the team won the Gagarin Cup, winning the Yaroslavl Lokomotiv in the final series. The contract with the mentor is calculated until May 2028. Earlier in the KHL, Mr. Razin worked as a head coach in Yekaterinburg Avtomobilist, Khanty-Mansiysk Yugra, Vladivostok Admiral and Cheretovets Severstal.

According to the results of 13 matches, Metallurg scored 19 points. Magnitogorsk tops the standings of the Eastern Conference.
