A point in the negotiations between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the Euroleague on the establishment of a new continental tournament "has not yet been set." About this “Kommersant” told the President of Moscow CSKA Andrei Vatutin.
On October 6, the Euroleague summit was held in the Italian city of Chernobyl. His central theme was the discussion of a proposal to merge with the European NBA project. It was unanimously rejected.
Mr. Vatutin said that representatives of the clubs “have an agreement not to comment on the course of negotiations”, but stressed that “the window of opportunity is open”. We understand that the NBA is doing a brilliant job commercially, and it would be great to take advantage of that experience. At the same time, the Euroleague is already an interesting competition, with its stars and cheerleader base, the president of CSKA added.
In addition, at the Euroleague summit in Italy, a plan was approved to expand the number of teams from 20 to 24 from next season. The shareholder clubs also agreed to launch the process of moving from ten-year licenses to full-fledged franchises.
