The Russian team of gymnasts was left without visas for 2 days before going to the world championship in the Netherlands. This was stated by the Federation of Gymnastics of Russia (FGR).
All athletes have been selected and appear in official applications of World Gymnastics. From September 30 to October 5, 2026, they submitted a full package of documents to the visa center immediately after receiving the invitations. As of October 9, there is no information on when visas will be issued.
The departure of the Russian team is scheduled for the night from 11 to 12 October. Official training starts on October 13, and on October 14 men will try out the competition platform. The FGR warned that if the issuance of visas is delayed, athletes may not have time to start training at the venue of the tournament.
About the situation FGR notified the International Federation of gymnastics (World Gymnastics). The issue is being resolved together with the Russian Foreign Ministry and the president of the organization, Morinari Watanabe. The world championship will be held in Rotterdam from 17 to 25 October. The tournament will play vouchers for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
In May, the Executive Committee of World Gymnastics decided to allow Russian athletes to international competitions with the flag and anthem of the country. In July, the organization clarified that for tournaments approved before this decision, exceptions are possible if local authorities impose restrictions.
