According to Melnikova, the reasons for the refusal of visas were not explained to her and two other athletes
Voronezh gymnast Angelina Melnikova reacted to the refusal of the Netherlands to issue her and two other leaders of the Russian women’s team visas to participate in the world Cup. This athlete wrote in his social networks.
According to Melnikova, she felt a similar outcome, but still was close to tears. However, the gymnast noted, in this situation, a sense of self-esteem is included.
- When you are so bullied, even the very desire to go disappears, the athlete admitted.
Melnikova stressed that the Russian team got to the World Cup not by invitation, but by the sporting principle – through the European Championship. The ticket was earned honestly, and the athletes did not ask for an exception.
The gymnast also said she was receiving support from hundreds of people around the world. In her opinion, in the current unstable international situation, any country can face a similar situation, and she called further mixing of sports and politics “the biggest stupidity”.
The reasons for the refusal of visas, according to Melnikova, she and two other athletes were not explained. Earlier, the Dutch authorities declared three Russian gymnasts undesirable for entry into the country.
