US Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders, along with his Republican counterpart Greg Kazar, introduced a bill regulating artificial intelligence (AI). The document was obtained by the Associated Press (AP).
The authors of the initiative propose to create a Ministry of AI, as well as to impose a temporary ban on the development of the most advanced AI – the so-called “artificial superintelligence”. The ban should remain in place until the new ministry develops rules under which such developments can be carried out.
According to the AP, the bill was supported by some employees of AI companies. It is unlikely to be approved in the Senate, where the majority of Republicans, even though one of the authors of the document also belongs to this party.
The bill appeared in the conditions when several heads of AI companies and experts announced the dangers of this technology. This is also due to an increase in the number of cases when AI agents got out of control and hacked other companies during testing. ChatGPT developer OpenAI last week unveiled new rules of its own to prevent such hacks.
In August, Bernie Sanders called on leading tech companies to halt the development of the technology because of the danger of losing control of it. Time magazine included the senator among the 100 most influential people in the field of AI.
