The European Court of General Jurisdiction partially satisfied the claim of Russian singer Polina Gagarina to cancel in her respect the acts of the EU Council. The actress demanded to exclude her from the sanctions lists and invalidate the extension of restrictions. Two decrees on restrictive measures were canceled, indicated in the case file on the court website.
The court ruled to overturn the decisions on restrictive measures of March 14 and September 12, 2025 due to “inflicting or threatening to damage the integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.” This means that the extension of sanctions from March 16, 2025 to March 15, 2026 has been declared invalid. The Council of the EU, according to the court, did not provide significant arguments in favor of the fact that the singer continued to follow such intentions at the time of the decision.
The court did not exclude the name of the singer from the main sanctions list. The initial claims of the European Council to the artist, the court considered justified. The restrictions include a ban on entry into EU countries.
Polina Gagarina was sanctioned in June 2024. According to EUobserver, the reason was her speeches at events dedicated to the accession of new regions to Russia.
