The British royal family has become the target of a disinformation campaign linked to overseas “bot farms.” The Times reports. The attacks, coordinated with the use of thousands of AI accounts, originated in Vietnam, where similar transactions are conducted for cryptocurrency.
The Times notes that it is not yet possible to establish who is the customer of the posts with fakes about the royal family. Some experts interviewed by the publication do not exclude that they could be funded by some third party, including Russia.
One such campaign, circulated online ahead of King Charles III’s state visit to the United States, claimed he had secretly converted to Islam. False messages are often accompanied by images created by AI.
Neural network security issues are being discussed today at the Scottish estate of Dumfries House, where a summit of AI leaders, including representatives from Anthropic, Nvidia, Google DeepMind and OpenAI, chaired by King Charles III, is taking place.
