In the Gulf of Aden, a small vessel tried to intercept a tanker. This was reported by the UK Maritime Trade Operations Authority (UKMTO), citing a message from the crew of the pursued vessel.

The incident occurred 75 nautical miles east of the Yemeni city of Aden at 13:59 UTC (16:59 GMT), the ministry said. The tanker was heading west. An investigation into the incident is underway, UKMTO said. It recommended following the route with caution and reporting any suspicious situations.

On September 14, Yemen’s Ansar Allah (Houthi) movement took control of the Hanish archipelago in the southern Red Sea, near the entrance to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The sea route connects the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and serves as the southern gateway to the Suez Canal.

Sources Reuters reported that Iran privately with a request to “restrain” the Houthis appealed to China. Beijing said the group's actions jeopardize Saudi oil exports and complicate shipping.
