Lukashenko: Belarus would repeat Ukraine’s fate if it were torn from Russia
Belarus could repeat the fate of Ukraine if Western countries managed to “tear it away from Russia” in 2020, said President Alexander Lukashenko. On the eve of Minsk, a US delegation headed by US President Donald Trump’s special envoy for Belarus, John Cole, arrived.
They [US diplomats] do not tell me that they would like us to leave Russia, to tear us away, perhaps even from Russia, and they tried to do this in 2020. If it turned out, we would have what is now in Ukraine, said Mr. Lukashenko at the youth forum for the Day of national unity of the country (quoted by RIA Novosti).
In August 2020, mass protests began in Belarus after the announcement of the results of the presidential election. Authorities said the protests were run and sponsored from abroad.
