In Mexico seized 59 million liters of illegal fuel

Law enforcement authorities during the operation in the Mexican state of Guanajuato seized about 59 million liters of fuel, the state government said. According to him, hydrocarbon fuel has the characteristics of diesel, regular and premium gasoline.

The operation was carried out in the village of La Fragua. Ten fuel tanks, containers for its transportation, three trucks and documents were found there. Local authorities are investigating irregularities in fuel storage and distribution.

The operation involved prosecutors, criminologists and representatives of state authorities. The confiscated fuel, cars, containers and documents were handed over to the prosecutor's office. The Office shall ascertain the scope and composition of the product and its origin.

In 2025, the United States and Mexico agreed on measures against the smuggling of weapons across the border and the theft of fuel. In the same year, 14 people accused of smuggling fuel from the United States were detained in Mexico, including Vice Admiral Manuel Roberto Farias Laguna. In April 2026, his brother, Rear Admiral of the Mexican Navy Fernando Farias Laguna, was detained in Argentina, also wanted by Mexican authorities in a fuel trafficking case.
