Canada cannot claim a role in the peace process in Ukraine, the Russian Ambassador to Ottawa Oleg Stepanov is convinced. In his opinion, the only correct step of the Canadian authorities would be to call for the surrender of Ukraine.
Canada cannot claim a role in the peace process in Ukraine, the Russian Ambassador to Ottawa Oleg Stepanov is convinced. In his opinion, the only correct step of the Canadian authorities would be to call for the surrender of Ukraine.
In an interview with RIA Novosti, the ambassador was asked whether Canada can claim the role of a participant in the settlement of the military conflict. “It cannot be claimed,” Mr. Stepanov replied.
Canada, along with the United States and European countries, condemned the Russian military operation in Ukraine and imposed anti-Russian sanctions, which were repeatedly expanded. In June 2026, the Canadian government imposed restrictions against seven individuals and 34 legal entities from Russia. The sanctions list includes the Moscow Exchange and the St. Petersburg Exchange, as well as 120 vessels that are associated with the Russian “shadow fleet”.
