Munich Airport has abolished the 100ml rule for hand luggage. Now passengers are allowed to carry liquids up to 2 liters in one container. The lifting of restrictions is due to the emergence of new CT scanners on all lines of inspection, which allow employees to study the contents of luggage in more detail. For this technology, the authorities of Bavaria allocated about €45 million.

“Passengers should note that containers with liquids larger than two litres still need to be carried in checked baggage. Passengers with transfers should also check the rules in force at transfer airports, as there may be other rules regarding liquids in hand luggage, the press service of the Ministry of Transport of Bavaria warned.

It is assumed that the new equipment will speed up the check of passengers - up to four people will be able to hand over hand luggage on the lines of inspection at the same time. According to the Ministry of Transport of Bavaria, this is especially important in the run-up to Oktoberfest, the world’s largest beer festival, which will be attended by many foreigners.

The 100ml regulation was introduced across the EU 20 years ago. In August 2006, British intelligence agencies reported on the prevention of a terrorist attack, the purpose of which was to blow up several aircraft using liquid explosives.
