Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko refused to comment on reports that Turkey sent Russia a draft memorandum with Ukraine on security in the Black Sea. The document is intended to stop attacks on civilian ships, AFP wrote, citing a source.
“We do not comment on media reports, but it is known that we are in a systematic dialogue with the Turkish side, a constant dialogue on ensuring maritime security in the broadest sense of the word,” Grushko told reporters.
On September 17, AFP, citing an unnamed Turkish diplomat, reported that Ankara sent Moscow and Kiev a draft document on the cessation of strikes on ships in the Black Sea. According to him, the basis of the proposal is the experience of the “grain corridor”.
According to the initiative, the safe route can run along the eastern and southern coasts of the Black Sea. “We want to use the territorial waters of neighboring states, including Turkey, as well as Georgia, if it agrees to this,” the diplomat said.
