The German Consulate General in St. Petersburg has stopped working. The staff of the diplomatic mission left the building on Furstatskaya street, 39. This was reported to Interfax in the St. Petersburg representative office of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

On September 17, the flags of the European Union and Germany were removed from the Consulate General building. Signs were removed from the facade.

The Russian Foreign Ministry withdrew its consent to the work of the diplomatic mission after the decision of the German authorities to close the Russian Consulate General in Bonn. This was Germany’s response to a drone incident at Leipzig airport in August that Germany blamed on Russia.
